Post 77 Second Vice Commander Albert Castillo (l.)

State Babe Ruth baseball tournament at Clark Field,
Woodland.

The Yolo County Veterans Coalition, an organization of all the
veterans' service organizations in the county, has selected
American Legion Post 77 officer Vince Olvera (center) as
"Veteran of the Year." The award was presented by Ted Puntillo
(l.), California Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Woodland
City Councilman Jeff Monroe (r.) was the main speaker. Mr.
Olvera has held many offices at Post 77, in addition to currently
be an officer of the Veterans Coalition, a District-level officer of
the American Legion, and the veterans' representative on the
Yolo County Board of Supervisor's Community Services Action
Board. A Vietnam combat veteran, he has participated this last
year in 36 Honor Guards at the funerals of Yolo County veterans,
in addition to providing medical assistance to homeless and
at-risk veterans and working with Boy Scout Troop 68 as the
liaison of the troop sponsor, Yolo Post 77.

one of the 3,705 veterans' graves at the Sacramento Valley
National Veterans Cemetery in Dixon. Gary was on the
committee with members of the American Legion and
others who raised money so that wreaths could be laid out
during Christmas time on all the gravesites to honor
veterans for their service to America.
The federal veterans' cemetery in Dixon was only one of
three in the U.S., along with Veterans Administration
cemeteries in Maine and Arkansas, where
there were wreaths for all veterans resting in the cemetery.
